Which Apps Make Daily Life Easier in Bangkok?
Bangkok’s useful apps can summon dinner, a motorcycle, groceries, a cleaner, or a courier in minutes. The hard part is knowing which services are current, what setup they require, and when a human contact still works better.

In this guide
Bangkok can make an errand disappear before you have finished complaining about it.
A rider can collect a forgotten document. A restaurant can send lunch across town. A supermarket order can arrive while you work. Your cleaner may confirm the next visit through LINE, the electricity authority can show an outage on a map, and a taxi driver can receive the destination in Thai without either of you performing amateur street-name theater.
This convenience is real. It is also uneven.
Some apps accept a foreign card and an international number. Others expect a Thai mobile number, a Thai payment method, a service-account number, or an app-store region that matches Thailand. Coverage can change within the same city. A service that works brilliantly in central Bangkok may have fewer providers at the edge of the metropolitan area.
The useful question is simple:
Which daily problem does this app solve, and what must be in place before it can solve it?
The short list
| Daily task | Useful starting options | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Messaging and local contacts | LINE | Thai number or existing account access; official-account verification |
| Cars and motorcycles | Grab, Bolt, LINE MAN Ride | Live price, pickup point, payment method, vehicle type |
| Restaurant delivery | GrabFood, LINE MAN, ShopeeFood, Robinhood | Restaurant coverage, delivery charge, minimum order, current promotion |
| Groceries and essentials | GrabMart, LINE MAN MART, 7App, retailer apps | Service radius, substitutions, store hours, accepted payment |
| Same-day documents and parcels | GrabExpress, LINE MAN Messenger | Item limits, insurance or guarantee, recipient instructions |
| Online shopping | Lazada, Shopee | Seller history, official-store status, return terms, delivery address |
| Cleaning and home services | BeNeat, Seekster, building referrals | Scope, supplies, provider screening, cancellation terms |
| Electricity and water | MEA Smart Life, MWA onMobile | Correct service account, who receives the bill, who is authorized to manage it |
| Navigation and language | Google Maps, Google Translate, Apple Maps | Correct entrance, Thai address, saved offline language tools |
| Bangkok buses | ViaBus plus operator information | Route direction, service variant, live vehicle reliability |
You do not need every app on the first day. Start with LINE, one ride-hailing app, one food-delivery platform, maps, and translation. Add the rest when an actual task requires them.
LINE is part of Bangkok’s daily infrastructure
In Thailand, LINE often sits where Americans expect text messages, WhatsApp, email, a customer portal, and an appointment reminder to sit.
People use it to:
- message friends, colleagues, landlords, agents, and service providers;
- join condominium, school, hobby, and business groups;
- receive appointment confirmations;
- contact restaurants, clinics, repair shops, and small businesses;
- follow verified official accounts;
- share locations, photos, documents, and payment evidence;
- make voice and video calls.
LINE’s official Thailand site describes messaging plus voice and video calling as the core service. The practical importance goes further because Thai businesses commonly operate LINE Official Accounts. A condominium juristic office may announce water work in a group. A cleaner may send a photo when the job is finished. A clinic may confirm an appointment in chat.
This can feel informal to someone accustomed to email. Treat important conversations with the same care you would give any business record:
- keep the full chat history;
- send the unit number, date, amount, and purpose clearly;
- save receipts and transfer confirmations;
- ask for written confirmation of changes to a lease, deposit, fee, or appointment;
- verify that an official account is genuine before sharing sensitive information.
An account name and logo are easy to copy. LINE distinguishes verified official accounts, and Thai utilities publish their genuine handles. Use links from the organization’s own website whenever money or account data is involved.
Rides: keep more than one option
Grab, Bolt, and LINE MAN Ride can reduce the most annoying parts of a Bangkok trip: explaining the destination, negotiating a price, and remembering which car you entered.
Grab’s Thailand platform currently combines ride services with food, groceries, and parcel delivery. LINE MAN lists ride-hailing among its four primary services. Bolt remains a widely used alternative for app-based cars and motorcycles where available.
No app wins every trip. Driver supply, rain, traffic, time, vehicle category, pickup rules, and promotions change the quote. Keep at least two options and compare:
- the full quoted price;
- expected pickup time;
- whether tolls are included or added;
- the exact pickup point;
- car, taxi, or motorcycle category;
- cash or in-app payment;
- cancellation terms.
Airports, malls, hospitals, and large condominiums may have designated pickup areas. Dropping a pin on the wrong side of Sukhumvit Road can turn a three-minute collection into a traffic experiment. Confirm the entrance in chat and send a useful landmark when needed.
The separate Bangkok transportation-cost guide explains meters, app quotes, motorcycles, tolls, rail, buses, and airport charges in detail.
Food delivery: compare the final basket total
Bangkok has an enormous restaurant-delivery market. The four major platforms identified in current Thai government material in June 2026 are:
- GrabFood;
- LINE MAN;
- ShopeeFood;
- Robinhood.
Foodpanda should be removed from old Bangkok app lists. Its Thailand delivery service ended on May 24, 2025.

The restaurant price is one line in the order. Compare the complete basket:
- menu prices inside the app;
- delivery charge;
- platform or small-order fee;
- minimum spend;
- packaging charge;
- promotion conditions;
- distance;
- expected arrival time.
A “free delivery” banner can require a minimum order, a subscription, a specific payment method, or a participating restaurant. A discount can also be offset by higher in-app menu prices. Promotions move constantly, so a permanent price comparison between platforms would become fiction.
Service quality depends on the restaurant and route as much as the platform. Soup, fried food, ice cream, drinks, and delicate dishes travel differently. Add a clear building name, tower, unit, entrance, and lobby instruction. If the building does not allow riders upstairs, meet at the designated collection point.
Cash may be available on some orders, while card and other in-app methods depend on the platform and account. Confirm the checkout screen before relying on one method.
Groceries: delivery is excellent, substitutions are the real test
GrabMart and LINE MAN MART aggregate stores and fast-delivery inventory. The 7-Eleven Thailand app includes 7Delivery where the service is available. Large supermarket groups also operate their own ordering websites or apps.
Use on-demand grocery delivery for:
- water, drinks, and heavy household items;
- forgotten ingredients;
- medicine-cabinet basics that the platform is permitted to deliver;
- pet supplies;
- cleaning products;
- a small order during rain, illness, or poor air quality.
Use a retailer’s own scheduled service when a larger weekly order, broader inventory, or a selected delivery window matters more than speed.
The difficult part is substitution. A shopper may replace an unavailable size, flavor, brand, or produce item. Review the app’s substitution settings and keep chat notifications on. For allergies, medical diets, baby products, or a very specific imported item, vague instructions are a bad gamble.
7Delivery availability, hours, and inventory depend on the participating store and address. Some newcomers also encounter app-store or phone-registration friction. Do not promise yourself that one app will work before arrival. Test it after you have a Thai SIM and a stable delivery address.
Couriers: Bangkok’s underrated convenience
On-demand couriers are useful long after the novelty of food delivery wears off.
GrabExpress and LINE MAN Messenger can move documents, small parcels, forgotten keys, packaged food, shop purchases, and other eligible items. Grab currently offers instant, scheduled, and two-hour choices in supported areas, with different vehicle categories and item limits.

Before booking:
- Check that the item is permitted.
- Choose a vehicle that fits the dimensions and weight.
- Package the item for rain, vibration, heat, and handling.
- Photograph the item and packaging.
- Enter the recipient’s Thai phone number and complete address.
- Tell the recipient to expect the rider.
- Check the platform’s current protection, exclusions, and claim deadline.
Do not send a passport, bank card, cash, irreplaceable original, prohibited item, or high-value object merely because it fits in the box. Grab’s published terms specifically restrict several of those categories. For important legal or identity documents, use a method whose custody, tracking, insurance, and acceptance rules fit the consequence of loss.
Shopping: the seller matters more than the platform logo
Lazada and Shopee can supply almost everything from phone cables and air purifiers to furniture and imported pantry goods. They are extremely useful when the same product costs more in a central mall or is difficult to find locally.
Marketplaces also contain uneven sellers, parallel imports, misleading photos, counterfeit goods, and products with warranties that become complicated after delivery.
Before ordering:
- compare the exact model number;
- look for the brand’s official store or an established authorized seller;
- read recent reviews for the same product variation;
- check whether the item ships domestically or from overseas;
- confirm voltage, plug, language, warranty, and return conditions;
- inspect the package before discarding labels and protective material;
- record the unboxing of expensive or fragile items.
Cash on delivery can be available for eligible orders, while cards, wallets, and bank-linked methods depend on the platform and account. A payment option appearing for one seller does not guarantee it for every order.
Condominium delivery procedures matter. Some buildings use a parcel room, locker, juristic office, or lobby shelf. Ask what happens to refrigerated goods, oversized items, cash-on-delivery orders, and packages arriving while you are away.
Cleaning and home services: define the job before booking
BeNeat and Seekster are among the platforms residents may use to book cleaning or other home services in supported areas. A condominium office, neighbor, landlord, or local LINE group can also provide referrals.

The booking is only as clear as the scope. Confirm:
- number of hours and workers;
- rooms and approximate size;
- routine cleaning or deep cleaning;
- whether bathrooms, balconies, windows, ovens, refrigerators, and cabinets are included;
- who supplies equipment and chemicals;
- pet, parking, key, and building-access arrangements;
- cancellation and rescheduling rules;
- what happens if the worker is late or the job is incomplete.
A low hourly price can produce an expensive misunderstanding when one person arrives without the equipment required for a move-out clean. Send photos in advance for unusually dirty, large, furnished, or post-renovation work.
For recurring help, consistency often matters more than the app. If you find someone reliable, agree on the schedule, duties, payment, holidays, cancellations, and access in writing. Respect the worker’s time. Last-minute changes and unannounced extra tasks are not charming simply because the conversation happens through LINE.
Utilities: useful only when the bill is actually yours to manage
MEA Smart Life is the Metropolitan Electricity Authority’s official app for Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan service areas. MEA says the app can show bills and usage history, support online payment, compare consumption, and report outages with location information.
MWA onMobile is the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority’s app. Its current version supports water-service information and various account functions, including bill and usage access, online services, and service-status information.

Tenants should first ask how the building handles utilities:
- Is electricity billed directly by MEA or through the landlord or building?
- Is water billed by MWA, the condominium, or the landlord?
- Whose name is on each service account?
- Where is the meter?
- Which account or contract number belongs to the unit?
- Can the tenant add the account to an app?
- What payment receipt should be retained?
Do not add a random meter or pay from a photographed bill until the unit and account have been verified. A previous tenant, owner, neighboring unit, or common-area account may be involved.
MEA has warned customers about fake payment messages and impostors. Download its app through the official app stores linked by MEA, use the verified MEA Connect LINE account identified on the authority’s website, and never hand an OTP or screen-sharing access to someone who calls unexpectedly.
Maps and translation: save the Thai address
Google Maps is valuable in Bangkok, though pins, entrances, building names, and English spellings can disagree. Apple Maps and local mapping tools can provide a second view. For public transport, operator maps and ViaBus can fill gaps that a general map misses.
For every important destination, save:
- the pin;
- the Thai name;
- the Thai street address;
- the building entrance;
- a nearby landmark;
- the phone number;
- a screenshot for weak-data situations.
Google Translate’s camera and downloaded-language features can help with signs, labels, menus, and simple messages. Translation software is a tool for reducing friction. It is not a reliable interpreter for a lease, medical consent, legal advice, tax filing, insurance exclusion, or other high-consequence document.
Learning a small amount of Thai makes every app work better. Numbers, directions, polite particles, building terms, food words, and common repair vocabulary reduce the number of screens you need to wave at another person.
What usually works on arrival
The easiest setup for a newly arrived foreign resident is:
- An unlocked phone.
- A Thai SIM registered correctly in your name.
- Reliable mobile data.
- LINE.
- Google Maps and Google Translate.
- Grab plus one alternative ride app.
- One active food-delivery platform.
- A foreign card that permits Thai online transactions, plus backup cash.
Then add shopping, grocery, cleaning, courier, and utility apps as needed.
Some foreign cards fail because of the issuer, fraud controls, authentication, address matching, or platform policy. Some services accept cash. Others surface different methods by merchant or order. Keep a backup and contact the card issuer before assuming the app is broken.
A Thai bank account opens more local payment options, especially PromptPay and Thai QR payments. It is helpful, though many newcomers live comfortably before obtaining one by combining cards, cash, bank transfers, and apps that support their accounts.
Setup problems worth solving once
Your phone number
Use a Thai number you expect to keep. Changing it later can affect logins, delivery calls, two-factor authentication, and old accounts.
Your address
Save a complete English and Thai version. Include the condominium name, tower, floor, unit, soi, road, subdistrict, district, province, postal code, and an accurate map pin.
Your name
Keep the spelling consistent with your passport, bank, SIM, and payment card where identity verification is required.
Your payment backups
Keep at least two usable methods. A card failure should be an inconvenience, not a canceled airport ride or an unpaid bill.
Your notifications
Allow the calls and alerts needed for an active ride or delivery. Riders frequently need help with entrances, parking, access, or an unresponsive recipient.
The habits that prevent most problems
- Compare the final price, not the promotional headline.
- Read the exact vehicle, store, seller, and service selected.
- Keep the address pin accurate.
- Photograph high-value items before a courier collects them.
- Record order numbers and payment confirmations.
- Use official download links for banks, utilities, government agencies, and wallets.
- Never share an OTP, PIN, password, remote-access code, or screen.
- Check what personal data and permissions an app requests.
- Remove expired cards and old addresses.
- Review recurring subscriptions and memberships.
- Treat ratings as one signal rather than a guarantee.
The goal is not to automate every human interaction out of your life. Bangkok’s small businesses, building staff, neighbors, shopkeepers, drivers, and service workers are part of what makes the city enjoyable. Apps handle logistics. Relationships create a life.
The practical verdict
Bangkok’s convenience is one of its strongest quality-of-life advantages. The city has enough competing platforms that a resident can order dinner, book a ride, send a parcel, arrange a cleaner, replace a broken cable, and check a utility account without spending the day crossing town.
Set up the basics carefully. Keep alternatives. Read the complete price. Save your Thai address. Verify official accounts. Use the app when it removes friction and speak to a person when the situation deserves judgment.
That is the useful balance: technology makes Bangkok easier, while attention keeps “easy” from becoming expensive or careless.
